Bread and Applesauce

I thought I'd show you a few of the products I baked last week to go to the market and the co-op...I love pretty things, and so I do my best to make my breads beautiful. :)

The Fresh Italian Herb bread...we use herbs picked straight out of the garden, so there is a rich, fresh, basil and rosemary flavor to it. It makes a stunning foundation for garlic-bread!
This is a regular white bread--it just looks prettier than usual, the way I knotted it. :)
The challah bread...a traditional Jewish bread eaten on the Sabbath...plus it tastes amazing as French toast. (Or so I'm told by people who actually like French toast. :P) I love the lacquer-like crust on the challah, made by painting it twice with eggs before baking. It was so much fun to try the 6-strand braid!
And the green-chili-cheddar bread. This is such a neat bread to make! In the photo it shows two horse-shoe shaped loaves. Since then I have decided to make it into logs, as that is easier to package and sell.
So there you have it! On a usual Friday I am baking multiple loaves of each of these, plus dozens of snow-flake rolls and cinnamon rolls! It makes for a 12-hour day, but it is rewarding to see all the lovely products at the end!
We have also been putting up the 8 bushels of apples that we picked from our neighbors' yard...(with permission. :) We've made it all into applesauce, and we've been selling that at the co-op too. The funny thing is, I love the idea of storing up food for the winter, but our family seems to have a genius for selling (or using) everything that isn't nailed down and cemented to the pantry shelves. :P Here are some of the pictures from the apple processing!
Our nifty peeler, corer, slicer machine!
And so we proceed! :) Any fall squirreling away projects you girls have been doing? :) ~Rachel
