Gentle Lessons

One of the many "gentle lessons" God has been teaching me recently is to take stock of and purposely recognize the things He's given me now that I couldn't possibly enjoy any more at a future stage of life when "things" might be "different." Specifically, all the things I enjoy now, as a single woman, that I couldn't enjoy one tiny jot more if I had a man of my own. :) Some of the gifts I've found?

Dark, moonless nights peppered with stars.

Watching a meteor shower at 4:30 in the morning. Stars, literally dropping every few seconds from the darkness.

Friendship. Does anyone stop and reckon how amazing a thing it is? I don't mean acquaintances. I mean those rare cases where "Our eyes met and the soul-light danced between."

The scent of wet pines.

Drives and coffee-shops.

Walking through the night alone, not at all afraid.

Getting the mail after dark.

Looking at the Christmas tree.

Reading a good book and discussing it with friends.

Singing songs around the piano.

Beautiful, sweeping fields.

Banter.

Friendly debating.

Parties.

Gifts.

Small things. Small things, all of them. But goodness, how much I'd miss them if they were gone! :)
